Shake Shake Shake The Room!

Tic-tic-tic-tic BOOM! Ha you gotta love a bit of Fresh Prince right? Well anyways enough of the singing let’s talk about Shake Shack, no no guys – let’s reallly talk about this. This right here is some serious sh*t. Taking a look through my long list of restaurants to try I staggered across this gem and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I tried the Westfield Stratford location so if you’re ever shopping in that area, go outside by Marks and Spencer and you’ll find a little bit of America right there. It’s a short menu but packed with flavour. You know you’re getting a good burger when they ask you how you’ll like it to be cooked, medium rare for me please – yum. This Burger was so juicy, from the smokey bacon to the tender peppers and then the crispy fries topped with hot cheesy sauce just makes the perfect combination. Oh wait, let’s not forget the star of the show the reason why we’re here the shake!

The SHAKE is Nothing like your regular Mc’Donalds shake this is thick, creamy and full of chocolate (that’s what I ordered). Although it is a bit pricy with everything coming to around £40 – it’s totally worth it. It can however be cheaper I guess if your grabbing it to go and not ordering so much, but this was dinner for me and we wanted to give everything a go as it was just before a movie(Straight Out Of Compton in-fact 10/10 from me) so it was very filling and it was nice to sit down and enjoy the meal and soak up the atmosphere.

IMG_6952 IMG_6956 IMG_6958 IMG_6959 IMG_6960 IMG_6961 IMG_6962 IMG_6964 IMG_6965 IMG_6966 IMG_6967 IMG_6969 IMG_6970 IMG_6971 IMG_6972 IMG_6974 IMG_6976

There’s no doubt this is a 10/10 and I would recommend it to give it a try, I’m loving these American restaurants coming over to England giving us a taste of what we’re missing out on – more please!

Taking over Turkey

August was an amazing month because I went to Turkey (Marmaris) whoop whoop!!

I stayed at this beautiful five star spa and resort hotel called Casa De Maris. One week of pure paradise, I literally didn’t miss a day in London  whilst I was away and was so temped to extend the holiday lol. To be fair it had been a long three years since my last getaway so I almost forgot what travelling felt like and I think i’ve caught the bug!

I won’t do much rabbling as I wanted this post to be a photo diary so enjoy the snaps 🙂

IMG_6584IMG_6586 IMG_6589 IMG_6591 IMG_6600 IMG_6602 IMG_6608 IMG_6609  IMG_6636 IMG_6638 IMG_6642 IMG_6644 IMG_6645 IMG_6648 IMG_6688 IMG_6689 IMG_6691 IMG_6692 IMG_6699 IMG_6723 IMG_6724 IMG_6725 IMG_6726 IMG_6728 IMG_6731 IMG_6754 IMG_6756 IMG_6759 IMG_6772 IMG_6773 IMG_6777 IMG_6782 IMG_6787 IMG_6788 IMG_6789 IMG_6790 IMG_6791 IMG_6792 IMG_6793 IMG_6794 IMG_6795 IMG_6796 IMG_6800 IMG_6801 IMG_6803 IMG_6805 IMG_6809 IMG_6812 IMG_6815 IMG_6816 IMG_6817 IMG_6827 IMG_6846 IMG_6849 IMG_6857 IMG_6861 IMG_6862 IMG_6865 IMG_6866 IMG_6871 IMG_6877 IMG_6880 IMG_6899 IMG_6900 IMG_6903 IMG_6906 IMG_6910 IMG_6911 IMG_6913 IMG_6919 IMG_6927 IMG_6934 IMG_6936 IMG_6940

Spice up your tastebuds!

Not one to overlook the popular restaurants in town I booked a table for two at Wagamamas, however it was an unusual spot that being Gatwick airport. I was travelling to Turkey and needed something to keep me full until I landed and this spot caught my eye.

One thing I must say straight away is the seating, I’m not really a fan of it.

Sitting on a bench side by side random diners left me feeling I was back at primary school. This for me, made the experience drop from what potentially could of been a perfect dinner date to a quick lunch bite, you kinda wanna have your own personal space when it comes to dinning not having to sit side by side to a complete stranger whilst slurping on some noodles now do you? ha!

Well, that was my little downside to the spot however minus the seating the food is one to remember. Extremely filling, I left wanting to fall asleep straight away being filled to the brim.

IMG_6552 IMG_6553 IMG_6554 IMG_6555

For started Prawns and Ribs but beware that hot chilie sauce packed a punch of power! Glass of water at the ready please.

IMG_6556IMG_6557 IMG_6558 IMG_6559

Katsu chicken curry and chicken and prawn pad thai for mains! Trust me there is no room for dessert don’t even try and force it LOL

Overall i’ll defo go back again to Wagamamas probably not on a planned date more on a spontaous thing as it’s not something worth planning a night around although the food packs flavour and worth the money as it is filling – it just personally doesn’t scream dinner date to me, I’m not sure if it all boils down to the seating but there is just something about it that makes it seem perfect for casual dinning.

Theres plenty of chains about but you can visit there fantastic website and have a look at the menu before you give it a go.

Caribbean Dream

Feeling a bit blah lately? The up and down english weather got you wishing you was on a sandy beach with crystal clear sea water as your view huh? A sweet rainbow cocktail in your hand with great succulent flavours for dinner? Well keep dreaming or start booking I say! Lol I can’t give you the perfect beach holiday, however I can give you a real tasty meal idea for dinner.

If it’s caribbean food your after look no further – i got you covered. I recently visited Cottons Rhum Shack in Shoreditch, Box Park and my god was it a treat. Now, I must be brutally honest here, i’m not one for caribbean restaurants because no restaurant or person can cook better than good ol’ Mumma and Pups but I was pleasantly surprised when visiting this cute spot. Everything I ordered was perfect I actually have no faults for this review. The flavours were all there, the presentation was up to scratch and it did reflect real caribbean culture. The value for money was another great factor and also between certain hours you can get two cocktails for the price of one AND an added bonus is that the two cocktails do not have to be the same, don’t you just hate when that is the catch!

Overall great atmosphere  with great food located in a busy part of London with lot’s to do afterwards, local bars and clubs literally a stone throw away. This could be perfect for lunch, dinner with the girls or a romantic dinner for two – i’ll defo be coming back and i’m give this one a 9/10 recommendation

Design the walls

Paint the town red they say is exactly what East London is about, with it’s constant night life, cobbled street and exciting food experiences it’s an area not to be missed!

I love coming down here as it’s always so busy, carefree and so talented. From musicians, to artists, to street food, to the home of vintage clothing you can find just about anything and everything down here. However, today I thought i’d stray away from the food posts as currently there is a street food fest going on that I will visit this weekend – can’t wait, but will take in the views along my stroll for this post.

Being very creative myself, I really appreciate how people express themselves. It’s not easy to do, not everyone understands it and sometimes you don’t even need to know the meaning or understand it, all you need to do is step back and appreciate it.

I couldn’t stop looking with literally every wall covered in art. I personally don’t think it’s graffiti, some may say otherwise but it’s the area of creativeness. One day you could display your art on the wall and the next day another artist will cover it up with their masterpiece. Thats what I love as every visit i’m pleasantly surprised with new works of art.

Testing 1,2,3

Testing out my camera with my favourite muse, we took a trip down the east end of London. I took  lots of shots for Jerome Six’s new promo mixes that will be out during the summer.

I had fun using my brand new camera, it’s always much more easier for me to get stuck right into things, rather than reading the manual and going on youtube tutorials for help. I had so much fun walking around and finding spots to shoot and just getting familiar with the new gear. This was before I bought a new lens so these pictures are taken with the 18-55mm lens but I already love the quality difference.

And lastly, I couldn’t not visit one of London’s most oldest Jewish bakery whilst I was in town, could I?

Freshly baked bagels, opened 24 hours with a recipe that hasn’t changed in over 50 years. I can understand why the queue was literally out the door. However, with competition just two doors down I think it’s clear to see that I picked the right choice, classic salt beef bagel. For me personally, it has to be no sauce and no gherkins but if your trying it out for the first time don’t try and fix the combo that’s been working for so many years – go classic, get the salt beef  bagel with firey mustard and a tangy gerkin or the other best seller cream cheese salmon.

Biting Byron’s Burger!

That’s one hell of a tongue twister isn’t it? Well, my tongue was experiencing all type of magnificent flavours as soon as I bit into one juicy Byron burger last week.

Days off for me are so rare, so given the opportunity I always try to make the most of it. This day off I travelled down to the mini West End (as I like to call it) Angel Islington to try out Byron – know for their ‘proper’ burgers and freedom of choice when it comes to cheese, toppings and sides, it’s very popular in London with more than 4 locations to choose from.

It can be extremely busy at night where it’s perfect for a dinner date in locations just off Oxford Street, London or pretty much empty during lunch times for a quick bite like Hoxton Square, depending on your schedule.

It’s cute rustic vibe is unique and very quirky, giving that edge to it that it needs to stand out from the rest of these burger joints these days.

The menu is small but I prefer that, to me that means the chefs can spend more time cooking up the best meals.

As you can see From that plate I enjoyed the Byron burger the star of the show was the cured bacon, pretty sure it’s a secret method they use to make it so sweet!

The Le Smokey was enjoyable, the chilli BBQ sauce with a hint of spice was amazing with the crunch of crispy onions – if you like it saucy this one is for you!

Overall, loved it. Nice simple day out – but defiantly something to try! 6/10 for me.

This location is the Angel Islington one at 341 Upper Street, London

Worth The Wait

Summer is coming and what better time to get in the mood than to listen to some proper tunes!

I designed the cover for Jerome Six’s new promo, the only thing is guys…there is a bit of  a wait, yeah I know you want it now – but hey, all good things come to those who wait, right? June 1st isn’t too far to wait anyways so let’s count down the days together.

But, in the meantime how about we just take a look at the artwork…

I tried something a little bit different and unusual from me but I think it kind of works. It has a bit of a galaxy feel to it you know, something out of this world and out of my comfort zone too. I am learning to adapt to new ideas and try unique designs in my work. Time to step out and let my creativity take me to new places.

It reminds me of something mysterious however the colours and tones make me think it’s an end of a summers day.  You may see this one above floating around on Jerome Six’s Twitter and Instagram so here is the original.

P.S Follow all Jerome Six’s social media on the artwork and help support please!

Fresh Start

So, as you may have noticed I have recently changed my blog url from ‘Hoo Did That’ to ‘Caliography’.

Although I believed Hoo Did That was cleaver and catchy – it just wasn’t me. The idea of Hoo Did That all started when I wanted my blog to be based around photography and graphics and when I uploaded a new post I wanted people to be like “Oo who did that? “Oh wow, who did that flyer design?” and I could be like Oh heyy gurlll it was me!

That’s where the owl logo came into it – the hooting sound was similar to the word who which was going to be the main question around my blog and then, boom two ideas collided together and “Hoo Did That” was born.

So yeah, although it was pretty clever, quirky and fun and all those word do describe me, it really isn’t me. I wanted something that kind of belonged to me on a more personal vibe. Everyone knows me as Cali and I really do enjoy photography, it’s something I want to pursue and learn more about- which will come with time and practice.

So as I am in the process of buying new equipment I thought it was a perfect time to start fresh with the blog too.  I do this for a hobby and I thought I may as well just take the time to start over.

Cali’ography is a bit more of me. It’s a combination of Cali and photography, its a lot more simplified and at least it now has my name on it so that my work can now be easily recognized with me. It’s easy to understand and something that doesn’t really need explaining which I prefer.

I’m really excited to learn and get more into blogging but hey i’m a bit of a perfectionist and get bored very quickly if things don’t go to plan. I have high hopes that this fresh start will get me back into the swing of blogging. I hope you guys likey!

As spring is approaching and the sun is making it’s well over due appearance nothing goes better with sunshine than music, right?

Wether you’re cruising around in the car, chilling in the park or doing squats in the gym to get that booty tight for summer, we all need good music to vibe to!

So, i’ve collaborated with Jerome Six once again to bring you guys and girls Automation.

I designed the art work for the cover for Automation perfect blend of visuals that just scream summer!

Enquires for designs/artwork

However, you can expect to be fist pumping away and shuffling into the sunset with this perfectly mixed hour long session recorded live from his biweekly show on ModeFM Thursdays between 9pm and 11pm!

It’s something thats upcoming, so you’ll be hearing a lot more fresh mixes as summer is creeping upon us andddd definatly another all-dayer to attend to – one not to be missed of course. I mean, who would’nt wanna be dancing the day away in the sun, with some fresh jerk chicken off the grill whilst listening to nothing but deep, technical house? C’monnn!

But for now, have a listen here now

SuperBowl Diner

It’s no surprise that nearly 114.4 million people watched the SuperBowl last Sunday, February 1st with the likes of Katy Perry, Jamie Fox, Rihanna, cheerleaders, hunky football players and many more celebrities and fans making an appearance.

Word on road was that, if you was in American and wasn’t at the stadium watching the game live, or hosting/attending a SuperBowl house party then you wasn’t human.

However, us Brits always had football to turn to (yes football, not soccer) to get that excited about, but slowly but surely we are getting involved with the American hype and soaking up the American spirit.

I had the pleasure of getting right in the hype by wining a Twitter competition, i know right, little ol me winning a Twitter competition you’ll never think you would be THAT person but yayyyyyy i won. So it all started like this…

Let me tell the rest of the story by pictures and stop be rambling on

1. Frito Pie (was like nacho crisp, weirdest invented but was maybe my fav, who would of ever thought to do such yummy things to crisps!!) 10/10
2. Bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers 7/10
3. Waffle fries 25/10 (drooling soo good)
4. Smokestack lightning burger 15/10 (best, but messiest burger i’ve tried at The Diner)
5. Lobster mac and cheese 7/10
6. Smooth Ambler Bourbon 10/10 (one word, deadly!)
Quick Review:
It was thee funniest night i’ve had at The Diner ever, out of all the times I’ve been, this has been my most enjoyable.
The food was soo good and the service was perfect, even the waitresses was fitting to the occasion by dressing as cheerleaders. The service was quick and food was served inbetween breaks and you was never left hungry or thirsty. The poker discs you can see was kinda like a token which abled you to get up to 6 free beers and soft drinks also the shots were completely free also. I was truely lucky to get hold of these tickets i didn’t pay a penny and i would defo try my luck again to enter a competition. The staff at The Diner Soho are so friendly and fun and i didn’t have one bone to pick on the night. I wish the timing was earlier but as you know, being a Brit means we had a huge time difference. We left before desserts as it was a Sunday and unfortunatly i had work the next day and i had already missed my last train but it was all totally worth it. I came home and caught the last 15 mins of the game!!
Want to give a big thanks to The Diner for giving me this opportunaty and well done me for wining the competition LOL
I feel like a real Diner veteran now

Every now and then I think it’s very important to look back at the work you’ve done and just to double check it’s up to the standards you believe are the best you can give.
After looking over and over again at the logo I created from scratch for Deep Sound Experience UK I found myself spending endless nights just starring at this art work not fully impressed with it.

I had been working with a programme called ‘Pixelmator’ on my MAC due to not being able to access Adobe Photoshop. The programme Pixelmator is still very impressive especially being that – when I downloaded the software over a year ago, it was completely free!
The software provides very similar attributes as Photoshop but sadly lacking almost every techy feature such as the ability to give your text some character, as the only feature available is to give text a shadow. So – as you can gather, the software is GOOD (as many of my previous designs have been created by using it), but it’s just lacking in so many departments that you can not get the best results.

So after a long wait, I downloaded the trail for Photoshop once again as the latest Adobe Photoshop CSS had landed. Happy to get my hands on this for a FREE 30 day trail, I didn’t waste any time designing. All of a sudden – I’ve gotten my creative buzz back and was loving just spending hours in front of the PC!

This logo was a piece of work I didn’t hesitate to go back over to touch up. I noticed that the words needed to be more clearer so I added a glow, I resized the whole logo onto a much larger document so it can be used for printing in the future. I made sure I made different colour options and overall just freshened up the whole look but making sure to keep to the original design. It’s so much more fresher just by doing a few tweaks here n there. But finally this is now the finished product.

To see the new logo in use.

Here it is guys – as promised an update from  Deep Sound Experience UK last event called ‘Closure’.

I’ve picked some of the best photos from the night, the rest will be on their  Flickr so make sure you have a peek over there.

It was an enjoyable night, the vibe was perfect filled with the best sounds in House, the weather was also perfect,

so that was great as the venue is an outdoor/indoor club. Jerk Centre did NOT disappoint when it came to

providing us with the best Caribbean food. Overall, I had such a good night with friends and family and dancing my life away. Can’t wait for the next event guys!

Saying goodbye to Summer

I have recently been back on designing flyer ideas for anyone who was interested and luckily enough the guys Deep Sound Experience Uk had some work for me!

They planned an event to be held September, Sunday 21st 2014 and needed some art work for the occasion.

As mentioned in a post before, I work very closely with Deep Sound Experience UK / #DSEUK

I am part of the team when it comes to Photography, Graphic Designer and social media assistant. I’m no where near an expert or business woman, I just do what I can – to the best of my ability and share my ideas with them.

If you didn’t know they specialize in #HouseMusic – so anything from #deep, #technical and #minimal house. Usually from the hours of 12pm – 12am (Also known as an all dayer). They provide you with nothing but house music in an indoor/outdoor venue. Also what’s unique about Deep Sound Experienceis that they team up with Jerk Centre who cater in Caribbean food. So on the night you can expect fresh food straight off the jerk pan food whilst you party.

In short, that is what you can expect from an event they hold but – I suggest you follow them on Twitter if you do wish to read up about them a bit more…

So back to this post. I designed the flyer for their event set out for the end of summer and I must admit this design is my all time fav!
The colours really do remind me of a sunset which I think really tied in with what they was trying to go for.

So have a look at the art work, the event was called ‘Closure‘ and was a real success. I will be updating you guys on how the event went next week – so stay tuned for that! 🙂

P.S the last poster is just a basic design of all the vital information which is used for promotion on the streets. It’s a simplified idea so that people walking past or driving get a quick glimpse of the most important info. (Just incase why you’re wondering why it is so plain)

The Big Pig Gig

So the title may of intrigued you right? But in other words it means, all you can eat BBQ. Hold up a second. Are you really taking in what I’m telling you guys, ALL…YOU…CAN…EAT… BBQ!!

I have been eyeing up this restaurant called Big Easy (London) their slogan is ‘Bar.B.Q, Crabshack and live music’.
Serving some of the best American style BBQ seafood, burgers, steaks and chicken.

The restaurant I visited is located on Kings Road, Chelsea. Despite being in London, the decor, atmosphere, live music (giving us deep soulful blues), vintage surrounding and cramped seating made me feel like I was in a typical Deep South American diner which I absolutely love (even though I’ve never been but, I’ve watched a lot of films ha!).
I mean, if you’re serving American food give me the atmosphere too.

So yes I’m now a huge fan of shrimp everyone knows this so it’s only right I ordered a bucket of those for starters and I must say – this is what I enjoyed the most.
Honestly, honest guys I can’t stress this enough but these shrimp….these shrimp!!! Hands down the best I ever tasted and I couldn’t get over how big and juicy every shrimp was. *cries* take me back.

The waiter told us it’s all you can eat BBQ and a beer on Monday nights. So we defiantly picked a good day to come.
The Big Pig Gig is what Monday’s are called, serving from noon to close the meal consists of home smoked baby back ribs, BBQ chicken served with slaw, beans and a cornbread muffin.

And that’s exactly what we got, be prepared to be jealous

The meal doesn’t come with chips so we ordered that as a side and also not sure why we got margaritas instead of beer – but I wasn’t complaining. Never was a fan of beer anyways and these lime margaritas were so sour and tangy but really refreshing on the palette after all that lashings of BBQ sauce.

The chicken and ribs was literally fall off the bone fantastic!
The sauce was dripping in sweet BBQ flavors and the side of cornbread muffin, really worked well together with it. The beans was no ordinary beans oh no, Big Easy doesn’t do ordinary. These beans were jazzed up with kidney beans which added another depth of flavor and something new for me.

The service was perfect our waiter was always checking up on us asking if we was ready for more food when our plates looked empty and when we did, a fresh sizzling batch was bought out to us in a matter of minutes.
Truly was fantastic service with a smashing price to go with it to – almost too good to be true in-fact. All you can eat for under £20 per head? Why are you still reading go book your table NOW!.

Each day varies on what is on offer for all you can eat so, if BBQ meat isn’t your thang be sure to check out their online menu for a day best suited to your taste buds. I have my eye on a few more days which I’d like to attend, so keep your eyes peeled for another review.

Dinner at The Diner

So although this has been a long over due post, it surely will not lack in flavor!

I love me some grease! Mouth watering food. High in calories, Drooling once arrived. Dripping in cheese. Beef. Bacon. Fries THE WORKS! Gemmie gemmie gemmie. Everything naughty is ok once in a while or in moderation right? Please agree with me to make me feel better, ha!

Well again, I visited the The Diner at Spitalfield Market I really think this is the spot to try out if you’re a newbie. The atmosphere late at night is buzzing, the busy crowd surrounding the area is an really exciting vibe, so if you’re like me and after dinner you want the night to continue, there’s plenty of bars and night-clubs within walking distance. Oh, and more importantly, within running distance to catch your last train from Liverpool Street Station like me haha!

So we started off with Long Island Ice Tea cocktails and you can’t really go wrong with these, I think there perfect when you’re unsure what to order.

For the mains…oh wait before I continue, this day dinner was on the cards from earlier on in the day so we was starving by the time we arrived, we had absolutely no time to wait for appetizers so straight to the main we went (incase you’re wondering why there’s none).
So yes, mains! I know, that’s right wipe that dribble from your mouth, I’m salivating right now from remembering the night. Let’s get straight to it, baby back BBQ based ribs with cheesy chips and homemade slaw. Beef hotdog loaded with bacon bits and melted cheese and for some reason a bit of chilli (which I didn’t order, but hey loaded up the flavor). Deep fried chicken wings with sour cream and wait for it…ultimate cheesy mac and cheese.

So my review, yes the food is delicious and soon as you take your last bite your ready to sleep for weeks. The food is nice and filling but you must eat quick that’s the trick, because as soon as the temperature drops – I must admit the food becomes a challenge. However, I was extremely hungry this day so I didn’t let it defeat me!
Only dish I did find which was a let down for me personally, was the mac and cheese. I just didn’t like the burger cheese placed on top, but that may be a personal preference.
Again, lovely night, brilliant fun staff better value for money than those high-street chains such as TGI’s. Overall 8/10 must go have a taste guys!

22nd At Green’s

My good friends birthday was celebrated last night as a surprise birthday at Green’s Steakhouse and Grill in Barnet, North London. We celebrated the night with dinner from delicious burgers to steaks, i would defiantly recommend this restaurant and be going back myself the atmosphere and staff help was 10/10. The menu price ranged from 10-25 pounds which is very good as the food through our party had no complaints. London Life through the lens

Wednesday 16th April

It was a beautiful sunny day in London around 19 degrees which is pretty hot for April in England. I captured what I saw from the start of my journey and captured London life as I know many people haven’t been to London before so this is a insight of what to maybe expect on a sunny day lol.

Started my journey firstly on the Overhead Train, then I switched to the Undergrouond at Tottenham Hale to change lines to Green Park Jubile Line, to then get off at Westminster.

Then walked to Soutbank we’re there is a whole heap of acts from magicians to dancers. Even if you don’t have the money to go on the London Eye, aquarium or London Dungeon the atmosphere is really nice and there is just so much to see live.

He insisted I didn’t take pictures of him because he was tricking people and taking their money lol watch out for these acts most of these people have perfected the craft of tricking people, don’t be fooled into handing money the chances you will win are soo slim!

Then walked to Leicester Square where we saw another magician and right in-front of  M&M world they have this annoying clock which strikes every hour with around 6 loud bells not sure if it is a permanent feature in the area now but it is so loud and annoying i hated it lol.
